Human Rights Watch: 800 Nigerians Killed in Electoral Violence

http://www.voanews.com/english/news/africa/Human-Rights-Watch-Says-At-Least-800-Nigerians-Were-Killed-in-Electoral-121889384.html
Three days of rioting began when supporters of opposition candidate Muhammadu Buhari burned electoral commission offices and police stations following results that showed President Goodluck Jonathan winning the vote last month. Human Rights Watch Nigeria researcher Eric Guttschuss says the violence then turned sectarian as northern; predominantly Muslim Buhari supporters began attacking southern, mostly Christian Jonathan supporters. Individuals from the south who were seen as supporting the incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan were also attacked and houses and shops burned. Kaduna state was the most violent.
Christians in southern parts of Kaduna state responded with their own attacks. Members of Christian ethnic groups retaliated by also attacking Muslims and Hausa-Fulani, who are predominantly Muslim.

Idk why can't they arrest Buhari and just do something to him because he is bringing violance into the country. i think they should kill him for the violance he as bring into the country, but the people shouldn't have join him to like the muslim, they help him kill the christain.

Nigerian 'Islamists' kill governor's driver, chief

http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5jWe2dkaKJLGHE5YJA0_mCp-2mQsw?docId=CNG.9e1c62c2ce16e882a63d9be458862daf.9c1

Suspected members of an Islamist sect blamed for a series of attacks in northern Nigeria have shot and killed a driver for a state governor as well as a local chief, police. The driver, Mai Kadai, had just left home Friday morning and was on his way to the Borno state governor's office when two gunmen on motorcycles shot him dead. they knew who he was and were on his trail,  this attack was carried out by members of Boko Haram.

Idk why did Boko Haram sent his man to kill the governor's driver but  i think he shouldn't have done it, becasue now there will be violance in the country and people will die from it, because now the governor will want payback and that will bring a violance.

Nigeria's Islamist rebel group rejects amnesty deal

http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Africa/Africa-Monitor/2011/0516/Nigeria-s-Islamist-rebel-group-rejects-amnesty-deal

Last week, the governor-elect of Borno State, Northern Nigeria offered an amnesty deal to Boko Haram, the Islamist rebel group headquartered in his state. Boko Haram has staged numerous attacks and assassinations, including the murder of prominent politicians in Borno during Nigeria's most recent  campaign season. Governor-elect Kashim Shettima explained that the amnesty progerm, explicitly modeled on “aspects of the amnesty programme offered to militants in the country’s oil-producing Niger Delta region,” would involve “invit[ing] [Boko Haram] to a negotiating table as soon as we are in office to find out from them what their problems are and find solutions to them.” The idea of an amnesty has generated controversy, but Shettima seems to believe that a temporary peace would create the conditions for a lasting redress of grievances and the prevention of further violence. Boko Haram  rejected the amnesty offer in word and now deed.

I think he shouldn't have reject the offer, i think he sould have went the found out what they trying to do or talk about. he was wrong for rejcting their offer, now they can do anything they desire to do with him because he refuses to come and join with them, idk what they gonna do about it but  i think they should do something.

Nigeria Targets Militants In Oil Region .

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703864204576319444156215136.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

The Nigerian army has launched attacks against militants in the Niger Delta after months of relative quiet in Africa's largest oil-producing region. The army attacks are in response to renewed acts of piracy and threats by the militants after wide-scale disruptions to oil installations some years ago, according to Nigerian.

I think they shouldn't have done that because people in nigeria need oil, so they should have done something else than launching. Now there will be no oil for like a month or maybe more. now there will be more problem to people who don't know about it and now they can't get oil to do something like cook.

'Supplementary Elections Unconstitutional'

http://allafrica.com/stories/201105020164.html
A Professor of Law, Chidi Odinkalu has described the proposed supplementary elections in Imo State as illegal and unconstitutional.  a statement he issued Sunday in Abuja, Odinkalu stated that by virtue of section of the 1999 Constitution election into the office of Imo State Governor must be held not later than 30 days before the expiration of the term of office of the last holder of the office. He argued that since Ikedi Ohakim would vacate office by May 29, any election held less than the stipulated 30 days would be unconstitutional.Section provides that an election to the office of Governor of a State shall be held on a date not earlier than sixty days and not later than thirty days before the expiration of the term of office of the last holder of that office. According to him, INEC has a burden to justify why it has chosen an option that is not supported by laws, facts or the Constitution. It has signally failed to do so. He explained that section of the Constitution allowed little room for error. Ikedi Ohakim, the current Governor of Imo State, took the oath to begin his four-year term of office on May 29, 2007. His current tenure will expire on the mid-night preceding May 29, 2011. All voting to determine whether he continues in office or is succeeded by someone else ought, in compliance with the Constitution, to have been concluded not later than April 29, 2011.

I think they are doing these things to get president goodluck out of the chair but it won't work because the result was right that he won but the people are still trying to re-run the election, so they bring wrong result and now they all agree to re-run the election but I think goodluck will still win no matter what they do. if he don't win than the country oF Nigera and the people will be in danger because right now the violance that had taken place was bad and the muslim is trying to kill the christian.

Why INEC holds Imo guber election behind schedule

http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/21335-why-inec-holds-imo-guber-election-behind-schedule
The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has said that its decision to hold supplementary elections in parts of Imo state on May 6 did not contravene sections of the Electoral Act.
There were concerns that the stalemate over the Imo gubernatorial election could lead to the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.  He said that the Electoral Act 2010 as amended only forbids the holding of general election not later than 30 days to the expiration of the tenure of office of the current office holder. While announcing the decision to hold a supplementary election in Imo last Friday, INEC Secretary,Alhaji Abdullahi Kaugama, named the affected areas as including Ngor-Okpalla, Mbaitoli, Oguta and Egbema as well as Orji ward in Owerri North Local Government Area.

I think this is why the violance is bout to start because they dont have the right to do this, the president who won the election desire to be the president, they don't know the mean result but he is a good president and he will take good care of that country, for ex: he made them go to the championshil league and now they are trying to take him out of the chair by saying these stuff, but  i really think it dont matter, he should still be the president no matter what. I think they dont need to re-run the election.

Nigeria Sends More Troops to Imo Ahead of Governorship Polls

http://www.voanews.com/english/news/africa/Nigeria-Sends-More-Troops-to-Southeastern-State-of-Imo-Ahead-of-Governorship-Polls-121164269.html
The Nigerian government has sent more troops to the southeastern state of Imo ahead of a controversial re-run of the governorship election. The vote was first held on April 26, along with gubernatorial elections across the country. The opposition candidate was ahead when electoral authorities canceled the results in some local government areas. The authorities said they needed to protect the population from electoral violence. As for the government’s reason for sending in troop, he said, “I believe it is a deceit and a ploy for the Nigerian government and the ruling party to support their own. They don’t want to let go.” and
He said it’s like preparing for the election under what he calls a blanket of pro-government security forces.
The ruling PDP says there was no official declaration of the winner by the Independent Nigerian Electoral Commission [INEC] and it is only fair elections be repeated in those areas where the commission did not validate the results.

I think the government is right bout sending troops to the southeastern state because some people are trying to start violance. As for the result the some people think its was wrong they dont believe that GoodLuck won the election, so they decided to re-run the election again in some states. I think they should re-run the elction again and let them see who really won the election because right now the people from southeastern don't believe that goodluck won the election.

Nigeria still celebrating, Cameroon focus on World Cup

http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/6/54/11227/Sports/Africa/Nigeria-still-celebrating,-Cameroon-focus-on-World.aspx

Nigeria youth team are delighted after being crowned African youth champions a record sixth time Sunday after a thrilling 3-2 extra-time triumph over Cameroon. It was a broken Record that Nigeria beat Cameroon because the have lost against cameroon for there years now. Since president goodluck won the election Nigeria has been better and they have good everonment now. now their soccer team are trying to go for the final on thursday against South Korea, its their first time to go for a worldcup. but now they are heading to South Korea for a friendly tournament before they start their proportional campaign for the World Cup.

I think president GoodLuck bring blessing to their country and now they are wining all their matches in the tournment, and they are now going for the championship league. I think they need to win that championship and bring the cup home to make their president happy and feel proud of themselves.

Former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari gains support as anti-corruption candidate in Nigeria

Former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari gains support as anti-corruption candidate in Nigeria

The government of Nigeria executed drug dealers. He sent his soldiers to the street to enforce traffic law,  all  drug dealers, to be kidnapped and and ship them to where they are came from. Now the people don't want to vote for him because they think he will take away all the freedoms in Nigeria. The general said that the people is destroying their own country. The election will be held on April 16.  Off all the elections that have taken place in Nigeria the people only vote for one person,  and he's not so good at being at  president. Buhari is the only truthful man when its come to being president,  of all the Nigeria's president. The people know that but still they don't vote for him. Of all the elections they only voted for him 1 time, so has been president just one time.

I think they should vote for Buhari because he will take care of their country and he will make their country safer and a good place to live in. The people in it will be safe too. I'm just  saying that because I heard that there was a lot of bad stuff happiening in Nigeria.

In final stage of election, Nigerians elect state governors

http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Africa/Africa-Monitor/2011/0426/In-final-stage-of-election-Nigerians-elect-state-governors

There was another violance again in Nigeria, so the electon was postponed again, for the 4th times.elections will not take place this week “because the elections that brought the governors of the states in 2007 were flawed and new elections and governors were the results. Governor of the 31 states holding elections this week, the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) holds the governor's seat in 21. six governors are hitting their two-term limit and are therefore ineligible to run again.

I think the violance are too much in Nigeria, they should try to stop all the violance before it get worse. The government really need to stop it because it getting really bad thats  why they need to vote for persident Jonathan so they can have a good environment and good community.

Polling Underway in Nigeria

http://www.voanews.com/english/news/africa/west/Polling-Underway-in-Nigeria-120690719.html

Voting is underway in Nigeria after last week's presidential election touched off rioting in some northern states. Nigerian voters were accredited at polling stations Tuesday before casting their ballots for statewide offices. It is the third and final round of voting in nationwide elections to choose lawmakers and a president.
Goodluck Jonathan was elected president in a vote last week, after which supporters of opposition candidate Muhammadu Buhari attacked churches, homes and police stations. The human rights group the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria says at least 500 people were killed in that violence. Buhari says President Jonathan's election was rigged and that he intends to challenge the result in court. The police came to stop it but they couldn't stop because the people attact them too. The group is attacking police and religious leaders because it says they wrongly associate with a federal government that it is trying to sabotage Islam.

As i said at first the government give them the change to do it, if he would had stop this long time ago it wouldn't have happien again but i think the government should sent Buhari to prison for killing all those people for no reason just becasue he lost the election. I think he didnt had the right to do that but he did it because the government couldn't stop him from doing it thats why he did it.

Gunfire, ballot thefts plague Nigeria state races

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jSukHK2jR-UCi0ji-M_ZK7CbKGJw?docId=b56d5d35fdd644b98dca94dbd819af21

Last week there waas a gunfire and 500 people was killed in the gunfire. The attacker was one of the people who was voting. Two elections in the states hardest hit by the postelection violence that left charred corpses along the highways are due to be held Thursday.
While international observers applauded Nigeria's legislative and presidential elections held earlier this month, the violence that has erupted in the aftermath has threatened the stability of this major U.S. oil-supplying nation in West Africa. About 700 members of Nigeria's National Youth Service Corps, who were supposed to run polling stations, already had been evacuated from states in the country's Muslim north hit by violence last week.  There was an attack during the electon too, An estimated 40,000 people left amid postelection violence and retaliatory attacks following the April 16 presidential election, and it's not clear how many have returned.

I think the government should have stop this things from happiening long time ago but he didn't take it serious, i think the government should find the person who started the attatck and killed them or take them for life in prison.

Nigeria leader says polls to continue despite riots

http://af.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idAFTRE73K68520110421

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan said on Thursday the final round of elections would go ahead next week despite rioting which has killed at least 120 people across the mostly Muslim north. there was a    launched violent  protests in northern cities this week after Jonathan, Angry youths did the launched, they said that they are tired of  Buhari trying to kill Jonathan. This week a c hristian from the south, was declared the victor of a weekend election, defeating former military ruler and northern Muslim Muhammadu Buhari. Churches, mosques and homes were set ablaze in the worst unrest for years as Buhari supporters rejected the outcome. The total of 260 people had been killed across the north, with the heaviest toll in the city of Kaduna.

I think the angry youths are right because Buhari can't stop trying to kill Jonathan. I think they need to protect jonathan from Buhari. I think the election should be real peaceful eletion, but Buhari is trying to make it violance and some people are voting for him, but  i think the government need to stop him before it gets worst.

Nigerian Rights Group Says 153 Killed in Election Unrest

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-04-20/nigerian-rights-group-says-153-killed-in-election-unrest.html

There was a Boomberg doing the election and 153 people died in riots across northern Nigeria by supporters of opposition candidate Muhammadu Buhari, who lost the April 16 presidential vote in Africa’s top oil producer. The attack was for President Goodluck Jonathan, and its was  the Muslim supporters of Buhari, a former military ruler. The fighting displaced more than 39,000 residents and injured at least 410 people. Seventeen people were killed in the city of Gombe and 71 injured. Jonathan, a Christian from the oil-rich Niger River delta region, defeated Buhari by a 57 percent to 31 percent margin. Buhari’s party rejected the election verdict. Most international observers, including the European Union, called the vote credible, they said the last election in 2007 was a  described. Buhari won all of the country’s 12 northern states while Jonathan took 23 of 24 in the mainly Christian central and southern states.  Troops have been deployed across the north to quell the violence and in some southern cities to forestall reprisal attacks against Muslims.
More than 14,000 people died in ethnic and religious clashes in Nigeria between 1999 and 2009, according to the Brussels-based International Crisis Group.

I think it was Buhari who started the fight by sending the muslim to kill President GoodLuck Jonathan. Jonathen too wasn't going so he  diceded to sent the christian to fight for him, they both end up killing alot of people. I think Buhari was mad because Jonathen won the election in 2007 and about to win this one too. Buhari is unhappy because he about to lose the election, but i think he try should get more vote instead of tryin to kill Jonathen.

MEDIA & SOCIETY: A qualified success

http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Opinion/5689512-148/story.csp

There was some improvement in the election. The effusive praise for the Independent National Electoral Commission in some sections of the media was premature. the heroes are not Attahiru Jega’s INEC and the Goodluck Jonathan administration that are eager to appropriate the modest improvement as monumental achievements, the heroes are the average citizens: the Ibrahims, Adaoras, Chinedus, Efueyes, and Ladeindes who are ever so accommodating, so large in spirit to forgive officialdom, and perform their civic duty. They are the evangelists of hope on which the future depends on. It was they who turned out early with the never-die-spirit of the Nigerian that can move mountains when it is deployed to noble acts.

I think the people of Nigeria should only vote for these average citizens that put their country first and that are the country of nigeria future depends on. I think they should vote for the important president which is the person that will safe their country from bad and dirty things.

What do Nigeria's election results tell us so far?

http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Africa/Africa-Monitor/2011/0413/What-do-Nigeria-s-election-results-tell-us-so-far

the Nigerian election coalition  has updated its site with more numbers and has helpfully organized them into charts. The results for the House of Representatives are broadly similar, except that so far the ANPP has no seats. This is the result of the senate election in Nigeria: People’s Democratic Party (PDP, currently holds the presidency and legislative majorities): 55, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN): 13, All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP): 7, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC): 6, Others: 5. Since 1999, the PDP has enjoyed national dominance, though regional politics certainly continued. The ACN also generated excitement by nominating former anti-corruption official Nuhu Ribadu as its presidential candidate. , the ACN has won the most seats in this election, but other parties are attempting to claim the progressive mantle as well.

I Think the update of the election is pretty good because jonathan is winning the election, i hope he win because he is the one they need to protect their country and  he is good and hornest with his people. Jonathan will help and free the people of nigeria from their dirty works and all the problem they have. I said that because in 2007 when he was their president, he take good care of the country and he give his peole good education. and there was no problem in the country but now their country has a ot of problem like people died a lot.

Nigeria delays vote for third time in some areas

http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hHddxlHMRS_mKkwtTGBLTj9G-KSg?docId=CNG.8d00429b889e9bb8fbb49b947c2102b1.861

Nigeria election as been delay for the third time  now. The election was delay because there wasnt enough vote. The second delay also pushed back presidential and state polls that are due to follow. the election suppose to be takin place on saturday but they postponed it. Consequently, while elections will in general take place next Saturday, it has become inevitable to postpone elections in a few affected constituencies, that is 15 senatorial districts  and 48 federal constituencies. Nigeria has 109 senators and 360 house of representative members.

I think they postponed the election because they dont't want any violence during the election, i think thats the best thing to do. I the people should vote without bringing violence in to it. The same people that bring the violence in 2007  are the same people  that was killed in it.

Violence marks run-up to Nigerian elections

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/africa/03/31/nigeria.elections/

There was a violence take place in nigeria, its was a riots, bombings and assassinations in Nigeria. Several people got killed, maimed, kidnapped or intimidated for political reasons pose the single most significant threat to the conduct of general elections. they said that at least 70 people have been killed in political violence. An Islamic militant group killed three people this week at a rally in the north,  At the same event police stopped two heavy explosives.  They said that police couldn't stop the bloodshed. the election chief  promise that there will be no violence at the election in April.

I think the people shouldn't try to make this election violence like they did at the last one, they should just tyr to vote for who they want to be president. because sometimes the person they wanted to be president, if that person lose, thats was start the violence, it happien last time.

GTBANK TO SELL N3Obn Toxic Loans To AMCON

GTBank to sell N30bn toxic loans to AMCON

GTBank plane to sell $1.7 billion of toxic  to AMCON which was normaling selling for $4 billion.  thats y the
bank reduce its loan ration from 12.2 cent to 6.79 per cent, but guaranty plan to expand their loan to 15 per
cent this year. GTB share stock declined with NSE. NSE has gain more this year  compare with the decline they
shear with GTB. Meanwhile ETI bad loan dropped, But net interest increase last year.

I think GTBank should have sell the toxic the right prize to AMCON. They sholdn't even be selling toxic to any bank for that matter. i think AMCON shouldn't buy the toxic, but if they really need it than they can buy it but they don't so y will they buy it for that amount of money.
