Human Rights Watch: 800 Nigerians Killed in Electoral Violence

http://www.voanews.com/english/news/africa/Human-Rights-Watch-Says-At-Least-800-Nigerians-Were-Killed-in-Electoral-121889384.html
Three days of rioting began when supporters of opposition candidate Muhammadu Buhari burned electoral commission offices and police stations following results that showed President Goodluck Jonathan winning the vote last month. Human Rights Watch Nigeria researcher Eric Guttschuss says the violence then turned sectarian as northern; predominantly Muslim Buhari supporters began attacking southern, mostly Christian Jonathan supporters. Individuals from the south who were seen as supporting the incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan were also attacked and houses and shops burned. Kaduna state was the most violent.
Christians in southern parts of Kaduna state responded with their own attacks. Members of Christian ethnic groups retaliated by also attacking Muslims and Hausa-Fulani, who are predominantly Muslim.

Idk why can't they arrest Buhari and just do something to him because he is bringing violance into the country. i think they should kill him for the violance he as bring into the country, but the people shouldn't have join him to like the muslim, they help him kill the christain.

Nigerian 'Islamists' kill governor's driver, chief

Suspected members of an Islamist sect blamed for a series of attacks in northern Nigeria have shot and killed a driver for a state governor as well as a local chief, police. The driver, Mai Kadai, had just left home Friday morning and was on his way to the Borno state governor's office when two gunmen on motorcycles shot him dead. they knew who he was and were on his trail,  this attack was carried out by members of Boko Haram.

Idk why did Boko Haram sent his man to kill the governor's driver but  i think he shouldn't have done it, becasue now there will be violance in the country and people will die from it, because now the governor will want payback and that will bring a violance.

Nigeria's Islamist rebel group rejects amnesty deal

http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Africa/Africa-Monitor/2011/0516/Nigeria-s-Islamist-rebel-group-rejects-amnesty-deal

Last week, the governor-elect of Borno State, Northern Nigeria offered an amnesty deal to Boko Haram, the Islamist rebel group headquartered in his state. Boko Haram has staged numerous attacks and assassinations, including the murder of prominent politicians in Borno during Nigeria's most recent  campaign season. Governor-elect Kashim Shettima explained that the amnesty progerm, explicitly modeled on “aspects of the amnesty programme offered to militants in the country’s oil-producing Niger Delta region,” would involve “invit[ing] [Boko Haram] to a negotiating table as soon as we are in office to find out from them what their problems are and find solutions to them.” The idea of an amnesty has generated controversy, but Shettima seems to believe that a temporary peace would create the conditions for a lasting redress of grievances and the prevention of further violence. Boko Haram  rejected the amnesty offer in word and now deed.

I think he shouldn't have reject the offer, i think he sould have went the found out what they trying to do or talk about. he was wrong for rejcting their offer, now they can do anything they desire to do with him because he refuses to come and join with them, idk what they gonna do about it but  i think they should do something.

Nigeria Targets Militants In Oil Region .

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703864204576319444156215136.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

The Nigerian army has launched attacks against militants in the Niger Delta after months of relative quiet in Africa's largest oil-producing region. The army attacks are in response to renewed acts of piracy and threats by the militants after wide-scale disruptions to oil installations some years ago, according to Nigerian.

I think they shouldn't have done that because people in nigeria need oil, so they should have done something else than launching. Now there will be no oil for like a month or maybe more. now there will be more problem to people who don't know about it and now they can't get oil to do something like cook.

'Supplementary Elections Unconstitutional'

http://allafrica.com/stories/201105020164.html
A Professor of Law, Chidi Odinkalu has described the proposed supplementary elections in Imo State as illegal and unconstitutional.  a statement he issued Sunday in Abuja, Odinkalu stated that by virtue of section of the 1999 Constitution election into the office of Imo State Governor must be held not later than 30 days before the expiration of the term of office of the last holder of the office. He argued that since Ikedi Ohakim would vacate office by May 29, any election held less than the stipulated 30 days would be unconstitutional.Section provides that an election to the office of Governor of a State shall be held on a date not earlier than sixty days and not later than thirty days before the expiration of the term of office of the last holder of that office. According to him, INEC has a burden to justify why it has chosen an option that is not supported by laws, facts or the Constitution. It has signally failed to do so. He explained that section of the Constitution allowed little room for error. Ikedi Ohakim, the current Governor of Imo State, took the oath to begin his four-year term of office on May 29, 2007. His current tenure will expire on the mid-night preceding May 29, 2011. All voting to determine whether he continues in office or is succeeded by someone else ought, in compliance with the Constitution, to have been concluded not later than April 29, 2011.

I think they are doing these things to get president goodluck out of the chair but it won't work because the result was right that he won but the people are still trying to re-run the election, so they bring wrong result and now they all agree to re-run the election but I think goodluck will still win no matter what they do. if he don't win than the country oF Nigera and the people will be in danger because right now the violance that had taken place was bad and the muslim is trying to kill the christian.

Why INEC holds Imo guber election behind schedule

http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/21335-why-inec-holds-imo-guber-election-behind-schedule
The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has said that its decision to hold supplementary elections in parts of Imo state on May 6 did not contravene sections of the Electoral Act.
There were concerns that the stalemate over the Imo gubernatorial election could lead to the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.  He said that the Electoral Act 2010 as amended only forbids the holding of general election not later than 30 days to the expiration of the tenure of office of the current office holder. While announcing the decision to hold a supplementary election in Imo last Friday, INEC Secretary,Alhaji Abdullahi Kaugama, named the affected areas as including Ngor-Okpalla, Mbaitoli, Oguta and Egbema as well as Orji ward in Owerri North Local Government Area.

I think this is why the violance is bout to start because they dont have the right to do this, the president who won the election desire to be the president, they don't know the mean result but he is a good president and he will take good care of that country, for ex: he made them go to the championshil league and now they are trying to take him out of the chair by saying these stuff, but  i really think it dont matter, he should still be the president no matter what. I think they dont need to re-run the election.
